Petroleum-Included • UV Reactive • Possible Enhydro Features
These remarkable quartz crystals from Madagascar are sought after for what lies within.
Suspended inside the clear body of the quartz are natural petroleum inclusions—ancient hydrocarbons trapped during crystal growth in fluid-rich geological environments. Under normal light, these inclusions appear as dark amber, brown, or shadowed internal pockets. But under ultraviolet light, they come alive.
When exposed to UV blacklight, the hydrocarbon inclusions fluoresce in subtle blues, greens, or golden tones, creating a striking internal glow that seems to ignite from within the stone. The quartz itself remains clear—the light response comes from the petroleum, a preserved trace of migrating oils sealed millions of years ago.
Select pieces also display enhydro features—tiny fluid inclusions that occasionally contain movable bubbles. These inclusions represent ancient trapped liquids, preserved exactly as they were at the moment of formation. For collectors, enhydro quartz offers a literal pocket of geological time.
Madagascar is known for producing:
• Clear quartz with distinct hydrocarbon inclusions
• Strong UV-reactive petroleum pockets
• Fluid-rich growth structures
• Exceptional clarity that enhances internal light play
Each specimen is completely natural and entirely unique. No treatments. No enhancements. Just deep-time geology captured in crystal form.
These are stones for those who appreciate the science as much as the spectacle—crystals that reveal their true brilliance when the lights go down.
